Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke at the AI Journey conference in Moscow last week, and once again didn’t hold back on expressing the importance of being prepared for AI. “Global history knows many cases when large, global corporations and even countries literally slept through a technological breakthrough and were swept off the historical stage overnight,” Putin said at the conference, according to Russian News Agency TASS.

At just 14-years old, Gitanjali Rao is a 10th grader, a scientist, an inventor, and so much more. She is featured on the cover of Time Magazine this month, sitting next to the headline ‘Kid Of The Year.’ When not attending the STEM School Highlands Ranch in Colorado, Rao is using genetic engineering to research prescription opioid addiction at the University of Colorado, Denver. She created a colorimetry device, has given multiple Ted Talks, and won awards for a device she developed to rapidly detect lead in water.


Sick Of Ringing In Your Ears? Research Shows Machine Learning Can Now Objectively Measure Tinnitus

Consistent, unshakeable ringing in the ears is a condition that affects 10-20% of adults around the world. Some 20% of those that have it are afflicted by a severe form of tinnitus which presents with additional symptoms such as depression, cognitive dysfunction, and stress. Up until recently, the diagnosis of the condition has relied on patients providing subjective feedback. Now, researchers in Melbourne, Australia have developed an objective measure for tinnitus, using machine learning algorithms and a process called functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS.)


Google Pushes Further Into Healthcare, Developing New AI Tools To Help Solve Problems

The two new products that Google Cloud rolled out this week are the Healthcare Natural Language API, and an AutoML Entity Extraction for Healthcare. Both products look to assist healthcare practitioners and staff with the review and analysis of healthcare documents. Specifically, Google notes their solutions are geared around improving accuracy and efficiency.
